03/21/2025·2MPANews March 21 news, according to Wired, according to a memorandum circulating among U.S. State Department staff, the Trump administration plans to rename the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the United States Agency for International Humanitarian Assistance (IHA) and place it directly under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of State. Politico first reported the document, which mentioned that the agency would “leverage blockchain technology” in its procurement process as part of the restructuring.
"All allocations will also be protected and tracked through blockchain technology to significantly improve security, transparency and traceability. This approach will encourage the implementation of partners' innovation and efficiency and allow for more flexible and responsive project designs that focus on actual impacts, not just completing activities and inputs." The memorandum does not specify what this means—for example, whether it includes cash transfers using some cryptocurrency or stablecoin, or simply using a blockchain ledger to track aid distributions.
