New York Times: U.S. will release BTC-e operator Alexander Vinnik

02/12/2025·2MPANews February 12th news, Reuters' signing of the New York Times reported on Wednesday that as part of the exchange with Russia, the United States will release Russian leader Alexander Vinnik, suspected of cybercrime, in exchange for the release of U.S. citizen Marc Fogel.
Vinnik once operated BTC-e, a trading platform that was once one of the largest cryptocurrency trading platforms in the world. He was arrested in 2017 and was detained on suspicion of laundering $4 billion through the platform at the request of Washington. In May, he pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy for money laundering and faced 20 years in prison.
