You mentioned before that you hope to do more in Asia. Can you share your development plans in Asia?
Last fall, I spent a few weeks in Asia and talked to some developers. This made me more convinced that we need to do more in this area.
Recently we have recruited a national head in the Philippines and currently have vacancies in Indonesia and Singapore, and more positions will be open in the future. We also plan to cooperate more closely with Chinese developers. I also know the importance of localization to the Chinese market, so we will provide more communication channels and resources for Chinese-speaking developers, creators and users. Stay tuned for more information later this year.
Solana 's positioning is very clear. What is the positioning of base? It feels like doing a little bit of everything, but not as thorough as solana.
Base is a global on-chain economy, and we make Base face everyone by implementing the 2025 strategy, while always adhering to our core values (stay authentic). Specifically, this means:
· Build powerful and open tools to help anyone create world-class on-chain applications.
· Cultivate a vibrant ecosystem, connect open on-chain applications, and expand the Base user base.
· Create a powerful on-chain account that provides seamless funding, identity and management services.
· Let Base be the center of the on-chain economy, with a highly liquid and always online global capital market.
· Decentralize, expand and accelerate Base so that everyone around the world can participate in the on-chain economy.
I understand what you mentioned, it is really difficult to meet everyone's needs, but I believe that if we can execute in these directions, it should be possible. Finally, I have a lot of respect for the Solana team, and if we were to bring a hundred million people to the chain, it was by no means anything alone could accomplish.
What do you think are the biggest challenges and dilemmas of Ethereum at present? Have these dilemmas affected their overall ecological development? What key breakthroughs has Base made in the Ethereum ecosystem? From what perspectives can we help Ethereum solve existing problems?
@brian_armstrong often says, “Things never look as good as they look, nor as bad as they look.” I have seen a lot of negative news about ETH prices recently, and I think most of them are distracting factors. I'm more focused on using @base to solve what I think is a key problem and make everything on the chain "run smoothly":
· Fast and Cheap: The deals on Base have been kept at less than a cent for more than a year. We recently released flashblocks on the testnet, which slowed the transaction speed to 200 milliseconds. Fast and cheap.
· Safe and easy: Smart wallet removes a lot of complexity, helping users who are not familiar with cryptocurrencies to get started easily, and only need to operate in the browser without additional extensions or app installations. We can also make everything “work smoothly” by subsidizing Gas fees and restoration features.
· Developer<>User Flywheel: Many people first come into contact with a certain token, and then want to learn more about other features, but there is no clear next move. We are introducing Farcaster and miniapps to @CoinbaseWallet to integrate this smoothly and drive the expansion of this flywheel.
Keep a low profile and pragmatic approach and continue to build.
Many original meme projects have emerged on Base, and even some spontaneous "cultural events" in the community have gained good communication power. In Jesse's view, are meme and native cultures an important part of Base differentiation? How will the Base team further support the development of grassroots meme culture in the future, especially community expression in the non-English context?
Yes, memes is definitely a part of our culture and a key factor in distinguishing Base from other platforms in its strategic direction. I once gave a lecture on why I think memes are so important in the process. But simply put, I think memes is an important user boot tool just like in Web2. And the meme builders on Base have also brought our most powerful cultural power. Special thanks to @clancheronbase, @apedotstore, @ClizaSystems, and other platforms and communities for their efforts to make this possible.
In addition, I'm also talking about "contentcoins" recently. Just like a social media trend may be just a picture or it may become a viral meme, content coins are also a simple post that does not expect its value. I think a lot of content will turn into memes, and many memes will create content too!
How to understand base is for everyone, why is the official ref token so quickly?
First, let's clarify: Base is for everyone is a post by Base on Zora, not a formal token. We have been posting content on Zora for several years and are very interested in their new model of content is coined.
Why do this? Because unlocking tokens provides creators with a powerful tool to help them earn income through creativity, while also paving the way for more experimental attempts. There is a lot of discussion about this, and everyone is arguing whether this is a good or a bad thing. My view is that people are used to the traditional understanding of tokens, and this approach is new and different. We expected some criticism, and it did feel a little scary. If I could do it again, I would have @base make more statements and instructions from the beginning.
Going forward, we will continue to mint coins because we believe everyone should bring their content to the chain. Our goal is to set an example through action and experiment in public. If you want to learn more, listen to this great podcast below.
The future plan of base is to attract more web2 users to join web3. I have also seen the team conducting different degrees of communication around the world, popularizing knowledge, etc. What is the main purpose of letting users go to the link? Is it mainly based on daily consumption levels, or is it mainly based on defi and gamefi?
Every day I’m thinking about how to bring a billion people to the chain, and the reality is that we can’t achieve this just by attracting people who are already interested in cryptocurrencies. We need to extend this "cake", and in order to do that, I think the answer is all the methods mentioned above. Our mission is to build a global on-chain economy that is inclusive to everyone.
Payment is a great example of how on-chain technology can improve people's lives. I saw firsthand how important foreign exchange and international payments are to people access to the global economy last year. Stablecoins and fast, cheap on-chain payments in local currencies solve the real problem for many people: they are almost instant, unlike traditional payments that take days and charge as low as less than a cent (dollar denominated), rather than 3% or $50 or even more.
On-chain finance, social, entertainment, music, art, games, content... all these areas can improve people's lives by handing over control to developers and creators, rather than focusing on the hands of large companies.
Do you think Coinbase Wallet will evolve into the ultimate platform for handling all on-chain transactions, especially when it comes to application distribution promotion? How far are we from this vision?
It's coming soon! We have been rebuilding @CoinbaseWallet from scratch for the past few months with the goal of making it 10 times faster while shifting the focus to solving problems with discovery and distribution.
When someone buys their first token, if they are interested in what they can do next, or what applications can be tried, the next steps are not intuitive. Therefore, we integrate Farcaster social dynamics directly into @CoinbaseWallet and let users easily discover on-chain experiences within the app without leaving the app.
We see that Base or you personally interact with Zora. What is the reason why the team or you personally prefer Zora? In Base Ecology, Zora has any special positioning and ecological value.
I'm very optimistic about on-chain social networking, it has the potential to drive virality, and Zora is a great example (if you haven't downloaded it, try this app now).
On traditional social platforms, centralized companies control content and users. In on-chain social, creators have ownership of their content and earn income when posting content (not just likes). Posts on Zora will be automatically minted, and the creators will also get a portion of their income from the transaction fees. In this way, on-chain social networking subverts the traditional model and returns control to the creators.
Over the past week or so, I have witnessed with my own eyes how much potential this model has to attract new users into this space. You can use Zora without knowing cryptocurrencies or earn money from your own posts. I think we need more of these applications to help bring a billion people to the chain.
Looking forward to seeing more creativity from other developers in this field!
In Base 's recently released roadmap for 2025, it proposes to achieve 25 million users, 25,000 developers and 1 billion on-chain transactions this year. What strategies and initiatives does Base plan to achieve these growth goals and how are the priorities of these goals?
These are what we call "great, brave, and lofty goals." If we achieve 100% goals, it means we are not thinking bold enough, so I asked our team to set bigger goals. If we want to bring a billion people to the chain, that's the strategy we have to take.
So, what are we doing to achieve this?
Increase investment in more powerful and open developer tools. We are particularly focused on developers because they will build on-chain applications that will attract one billion users to link to the link.
Rebuild @coinbasewallet from scratch to make it 10 times faster and easier to use, and improve content discovery by adding Farcaster social dynamics while integrating mini apps so users can experience it without leaving the app.
Continue to decentralize, expand and accelerate Base because we believe that the only way to build a truly global economy is to build a decentralized and open platform. The first phase, 250 mgas/s capacity, and faster blocks.
What directions do you want developers on Base to focus on? What other important products or categories do you think are missing in the ecosystem at present?
We just launched Base Batches (basebatches.xyz), which covers four topics: AI, stablecoins, mini apps and consumer apps. I'm very much looking forward to seeing developers build more projects in these areas, and there are really many opportunities. If you are a developer looking for zero-to-one support, welcome to join Base Batches!
Is Farcaster considering fully accepting Chinese users? If Farcaster is not considered, how will base/coinbase wallet cover different regions and languages?
I know that Warpcast is not localized for Chinese users yet, but I'm very happy to see clients like @tako being accelerated to fill this gap. However, if we want the Chinese community to fully embrace this network, there is still a lot of work to be done.
This is very important to me and one of the reasons why I host this AMA, hoping to interact with the Chinese community more directly. At the moment I don’t have specific features or schedules to share, but my team is hiring national leaders from all over Asia, especially those who prioritize Chinese speaking, and we place great emphasis on building a more inclusive global network.
Base is for everyone – which means we will invest more energy in the localization of Base, Farcaster and the entire community in the future.
What is the route to integrate Farcaster with Coinbase Wallet? How will the usage behavior change when a user directly uses Warpcast to access social content or mini apps through Coinbase Wallet instead of c?
We are rebuilding Coinbase Wallet from scratch, with plans including a complete Farcaster social dynamics, as well as mini apps that can interact directly in the dynamics. This will start to go online soon!
I think the power of adding this feature to Coinbase Wallet is that we can provide support in the usage scenarios of existing users. This not only provides more distribution channels for applications, but also helps users discover applications they may be interested in. I believe this will bring more user engagement to developers like you guys, and I'm very excited about it.
Base has any plans to issue its own tokens in the future?
We have no plans to issue new network tokens, and Base uses ETH as a native asset to pay for Gas fees. What I'm most concerned about at the moment is to create a great product that serves developers (the people who create apps) as well as users and businesses (the people who use these apps).
Although Base promises a multi-signature structure to ensure that it is not affected by Coinbase, in the eyes of the Chinese-speaking community, the label of "incubated by CB" and the reason for naming "Base" seem to have long been marked as a certain equality number; I would like to ask, how will Base plan to achieve comprehensive independence at the technical and social levels in the future, and completely get rid of this label that affects long-term development?
Base is open and license-free, and although we incubate at Coinbase (just like many other networks also incubate in labs), we have a deep commitment to decentralization. Why? Because we believe that only on a decentralized platform can a global on-chain economy promote innovation, creativity and freedom be built.
From the outset, Coinbase and Base reached the principle of neutrality, ensuring users’ autonomy over their crypto assets, ensuring that transactions on Base are not biased, protecting discretion of non-public data, and ensuring that users can withdraw cash from Base without restrictions. We have focused on the first phase of decentralization over the past year and soon we will share more progress on this.
I also think we need to continue to work to build Base as an independent brand and ecosystem that separates it perceptually from Coinbase while also being able to take advantage of all the advantages from collaboration. We'll have some interesting content to share this progress soon :)
What support can Base developers obtain from the official? For example, funding, exposure, guidance? What is the best way to get these support?
We are committed to supporting developers at all stages, whether you’re just releasing your first on-chain experiment or are expanding a real business, we’re here to support you.
I am very excited to introduce you to a brand new project - Base Batches, a global developer program designed to provide developers with everything they need to grow - funding, exposure, mentor support, community resources, everything.
It is divided into several stages: First, you join Buildathon in your region (we have events all over the world). If you perform well, you have the opportunity to enter our incubator, where you will receive practical support from mentors, Base core team members, and outstanding partners. Next comes Demo Day, when the best performing team will show the jury to get up to $1 million in funding.
It’s not just a one-time event — we’re building a long-term support system that helps you from creative stages to gaining attention to growing into a complete company, and we hope to help you at every stage.
