05/13/2025·1MPANews May 13th news, according to Bitcoin.com, Samson Mow, CEO of Bitcoin technology company JAN3, recently proposed in a podcast to fork the Bitcoin Core code to resolve the community division caused by the current OP_RETURN policy dispute. Mow proposes a solution to the current developers' problem of "displacement of incentives" and recommends creating forks based on the current version and maintaining new software through anonymous developer funding model. Mow believes this is the best course of action, as it is very difficult to push changes under the current structure. He particularly emphasized that the new fork needs to establish a more complete governance charter to avoid developers participating in projects due to their personal reputation.
The Bitcoin core development team plans to lift the OP_RETURN field restrictions in the near future, allowing more non-monetary data to be on the chain, resulting in a surge in the use of node software Bitcoin Knots (currently accounting for 8.6% of public nodes). Mow had previously called on core developers who resisted "malicious behavior", banned them from attending industry meetings and cutting off financial support. Analysis points out that this battle of technology routes reflects the fundamental differences between the Bitcoin community on the functional positioning of blockchain.
