12/19/2024·6MPANews reported on December 19 that according to Cointelegraph, as the Ethereum community has called for an increase in the maximum gas limit allowed to be spent in a single Ethereum block, the proportion of Ethereum validators who expressed support for increasing the network gas limit has risen to 10%. Before December, the proportion of validators who expressed support for increasing the gas limit was only slightly more than 1%. The increase comes against the backdrop of Ethereum community members proposing to increase the gas cap to 36 million.
On March 20, Ethereum core developer Eric Connor and MakerDAO’s former smart contract leader Mariano Conti launched a website called “Pump The Gas” to persuade the community to increase Ethereum’s Gas limit to 40 million. They believe that such adjustments can reduce Layer 1 transaction fees by 15% to 33%. Connor called on individual stakers, account teams, mining pools, and community members to help implement this initiative.
In December, the effort intensified when Ethereum researchers joined the effort. On December 9, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake said that he had configured his validator with a gas limit of 36 million. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Awosika, creative director of 2077 Collective, emphasized the benefits to developers, noting that current gas caps may hinder the deployment of high-demand applications. However, some warned community members to exercise caution when increasing the gas limit. Toni Wahrstätter of the Ethereum Foundation warned that this could pose a serious threat to the stability and security of the network.
