Vitalik: Make Ethereum as simple as Bitcoin in 5 years, pushing consensus key codes to approach Bitcoin’s simplicity

PANews reported on May 3 that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published an article "Simplifying the L1", which pointed out that one of the biggest advantages of Bitcoin is that its protocol is very simple. Historically, Ethereum often failed to do this (sometimes for its personal considerations), resulting in excessive development spending, various security risks, and the isolation of R&D culture. Vitalik hopes that Ethereum will become as simple as Bitcoin in five years, including: simplifying the consensus layer, simplifying the execution layer, backward compatibility strategy for VM transition, and simplifying through shared protocol components.

Vitalik concluded that simplicity is similar to decentralization in many ways, both of which are upstream of resilience goals, and the benefits will become increasingly obvious over time - Bitcoin itself is a good example. Vitalik recommends setting a clear maximum number of lines of code for Ethereum’s long-term specifications, so that the Ethereum consensus key code is close to the simplicity of Bitcoin.
