Web3 games, once known as the future of interactive entertainment, are now facing a "closure wave".
Web3 game content creator and Ronin Network talk show host Tr3vor tweeted about 15 Web3 games that have been announced to be closed this year, including "Nyan Heroes", "Mystery Society" and "Blade of God". These games are either suspended, closed or are scheduled to close in 2025. In addition, two games that were not on the roster were also announced to be closed earlier this year.
Web3 game closure in 2025
1.Anterris
Anterris is an open-world third-person creature collection role-playing (RPG) game where players can collect 3D creatures similar to Pokémon. It was developed by Battlebound, a blockchain game developer, which is known for developing Evaverse.
Anterris is online on the Monad Test Network for players to try and test. Testing will take place from February 19 to February 23, during which time players can also collect NFTs from the test network.
It is reported that Anterris has been tested on Steam, but the official release date has not yet been announced.
Gameplay:
Anterris is an open-world creature collection game where players explore diverse areas, discover and capture wildlife known as “Antera.” Each area has a unique Antera that encourages players to explore through land, air and ocean.
Players can form combat squads using captured Antera, each with unique spells and ultimate skills. Dungeons provide powerful artifacts that can enhance or modify skills, players can challenge themselves, or team up with friends, and team up with team members to get rare items and experience points as rewards.
Reason for closing:
With the collapse of its developer Battlebound, the Web3 game has been put on hold indefinitely. The developer announced its closure after four years of development.
The studio said that despite their efforts to extend operations and seek a new round of financing, shortages of funds and “extremely severe market dynamics” are the reasons for its closure.
They said that although the project attracted thousands of participants in recent game testing, its future remains uncertain.
The team called the game a "pause" state and could still restart if new funding is available.
"Despite the strong momentum of the game recently, our streamlined and motivated team has been struggling for four years to extend the operation time as much as possible while working to get the next round of financing... Ultimately, like many studios before, we had to close due to the extremely severe market situation."
2.Blade of God
"Blade of God X" (BOGX), developed by Void Labs, is a blockchain-based action role-playing game that introduces the "play while practicing" mechanism, where players can influence the training of AI models through actions in the game.
BOGX combines advanced AI agents with blockchain technology to achieve real-time AI development through gameplay. Set in a mythical world of gods falling and chaos, the game aims to transcend traditional games and blend narrative, AI and digital interactions into a unique and immersive experience.
The game is backed by major crypto investors; BOGX also raised $6 million last year to combine blockchain mechanisms with advanced AI.
Gameplay:
The game is set in Nordic mythology, and players will play the role of the "successor", that is, a reborn warrior, embarking on their journey in the continent of Musbelheim, a land of flame.
When they explore the world connected by the World Tree, they face the choice between sacrifice and redemption: whether to use ancient artifacts to influence the fate of the world, or seek guidance from gods such as Odin and Loki.
Reason for closing:
A former BOGX executive accused the project of abandoning Web3 development after obtaining funding in the crypto space. The game's former chief marketing officer Amber Bella claimed that the Web3 development roadmap was abandoned, team salaries were defaulted, and NFT-related benefits promised to players were also ignored.
Bella also accused the Web2 team of using internal accounts to unfairly claim cash rewards that should have been paid to players. Despite early support from Web3 investors, the game has reportedly turned to purely Web2 development.
3.Blast Royale
Blast Royale is a mobile battle royale game that can be played on iOS and Android. Its white paper emphasizes that the game combines fun and competitive gameplay with blockchain features, allowing players to fully own items in the game, such as characters and equipment.
Players can join the competition, complete the battle pass, participate in the tournament, and receive rewards based on their own skills. In addition, there are fun mini games, activities and rankings in the game. Players can trade items they acquire, participate in leagues, and even try to become professional players.
The game uses $NOOB token, which drives the Blast Royale ecosystem, the “Blastverse”. $NOOB can be used for trading, unlocking functions, and give players the right to participate in game development.
Gameplay:
Players compete in a survival competition with the goal of becoming the last surviving person. They have the option to land at any location on the map.
During the game, players need to look for rare treasure chests containing powerful guns, ammunition, medical kits, armor and other items scattered everywhere. They can also pick up items dropped by other players. However, except for special gold coins (which can be used in the larger game world), most collected items will not be retained after the game is over.
Players receive rewards based on their performance in the game - the higher the ranking, the more rewards are. Progressing continuously in Blast Pass, honor systems and rankings, players can obtain currency and props that can be used or traded.
Players can also earn trophys based on match rankings and kills. Collecting more trophys can help players improve their trophy rankings and win special rewards.
Reason for closing:
Blast Royale's developers announced on its Discord that they will officially stop game development and that the server will be closed on June 30, 2025. In another message, the team said the decision was made after trying all other approaches.
As a farewell move, the game will be fully open source starting June 1, allowing community members to access, use, modify and redistribute game code without restrictions. The original development team will support any community members who are interested in continuing the project.
All in-app purchases are disabled and the team promises to unlock and distribute all remaining $NOOBs that are still tradeable on Aerodrome.
Blast Royale’s Discord server will remain open as a community space, and the team encourages players to enjoy the remaining time, explore new characters, and participate in the final events and live streams.
4.Champions Ascension
Champions Ascension is a fantasy fighting game set in the style of gladiator.
The game runs on the Polygon network and is free to play or enjoy the full experience without the player having an NFT or connecting to a wallet, so it is a free game.
Players can buy and sell unique NFT characters and in-game items through the game’s official mall Grand Bazaar or a supported third-party platform.
Last year, the game won the 2024 Gam3 "Best Fighting Game" Award. The game is available through the Champions Ascension website or through the Epic Games store.
Gameplay:
The hero starts with the Grunts and gradually advances to a powerful NFT called the Eternals, unlocking new skills and earning cryptocurrency rewards.
The battle is strategic and will be affected by the family, profession, essential type, and unique body parts to which each hero belongs. Players can fight in multiplayer PvP modes such as 1v1, 3v3 and Free Melee, or explore PvE battles such as BOSS battles. Extreme mode offers advanced rewards, but non-Eternals heroes are at risk of permanent death if they lose.
Players can upgrade, craft items and promote heroes by earning essences. Prime Eternal NFT offers special benefits such as daily rewards and rare abilities.
Reason for closing:
Luke Jech, community and social marketing manager at Rough House Games, announced on its Discord server that it will temporarily shut down the "Champions Ascension" server, including features such as "Imperial Expeditions" and "Dudo" as the development team will focus on a new project called REACH Labs. This move aims to allocate all resources to REACH, a Web3 distribution platform jointly developed by Rough House Games and Overworld.
Despite the suspension of the project, KEYS rewards will be distributed to eligible players to ensure their efforts in the game are continuously recognized. The developers also assured the community that Champions Ascension has not been cancelled, but is being re-evaluated, and subsequent updates will be carried out after the official release of "REACH".
“REACH is another big step we have taken – an ambitious project that has the potential to redefine how games and other areas are distributed. While Champions Ascension is being developed and server-suspended, the technology we are building will play a key role in shaping its future.”
5.Derby Stars and Derby Race
Derby Stars is a blockchain-based horse racing meta-universe game built on the Polygon platform. Players can own, cultivate, train and trade unique horse racing NFTs composed of over 10 customizable body parts. And Derby Race is a real-time "horse selection and win money" horse racing game that can be played on Telegram.
Gameplay:
Derby Stars integrates the “play and earn” mechanism, where users participate in horse racing and improve their horse skills, and can not only win, but also earn cryptocurrency rewards through training and breeding. The game has a dual token economic system, including governance tokens and practical tokens.
Derby Race offers a fast, engaging two-minute gameplay where players can predict and pick the winning horses for rewards.
Reason for closing:
HypeDream CEO Ham Seon-Woo announced in a blog post that Derby Stars and Derby Race have officially closed due to long-term financial difficulties. He noted that the team has suffered a major setback since the Terra crash in 2022, causing their NFT revenue and a large amount of seed funding to vanish.
Although they re-launched Polygon and later tried to migrate to Immutable, the projects failed to attract enough investment or achieve user growth, which ultimately led to a decision to terminate all services.
6.Goombles
Goombles is a 3D tower defense game designed to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 through gaming and physical products. Built on the Cardano blockchain, the game has collectable candy-themed characters that can be used as an exclusive privilege pass.
While Goombles is not a “play-and-earning” game, it uses blockchain technology to enhance the gaming experience, providing surprises and rewards by having different types of Goombles NFTs.
Gameplay:
Goombles is a tower defense game where players strategically place towers and control mechas in the world of Sweetopia, defend the base against cunning enemies known as "Sours."
Players initially have a mecha NFT avatar and use it and upgradeable towers to slow down, attack, etc., constantly advancing in single-player adventures, player battles, and team competitions.
Reason for closing:
Goombles shared a screenshot of the announcement on the X platform, announcing that after more than two years of development, the team decided to stop the development of the game. Although the game was launched in 2024 and has 339 players installed the game, its activity is not enough to support the further development of the game.
The developer pointed out that although development has stopped, the server will continue to run so that players can continue to enjoy the game.
7.Jungle
Jungle is a Web3 game publisher focusing on mobile-first, community-oriented, and blockchain-powered hybrid gaming.
Its first game, For The Win (FTW), is a mobile shooting game. It is reported that it has downloaded more than 100,000 times in preliminary tests in Latin America and is planned to be promoted globally.
Reason for closing:
Grail.ETH posted a screenshot of the announcement in X post, and Jungle will stop all Web3 development and focus on developing a completely free mobile game.
The statement noted that after a year of active interaction with the community through game night, tournaments and NFT sales, the team decided to prioritize the sustainability of the project, moved all development efforts off-chain, and stopped Web3 integration.
8.Kryptomon
Kryptomon is a Web3 mobile MMORPG game where players can collect, cultivate, train and fight against unique NFT creatures - Kryptomon.
In 2023, Playdex, a social gaming platform dominated by Filipinos, launched the rental market for Kryptomon: Genesis, where players can rent Kryptomon NFTs for only 1 pesos (Filipino currency).
Gameplay:
Kryptomon: Genesis is a blockchain-based Web3 RPG game set in Kogaea's metaverse, where players play "trainers" in the game, explore the world, complete tasks, and fight with the NFT-based digital creature "Kryptomon". The core blockchain features of the game include ownership of NFTs, mechanisms to earn income through the game (players can receive $KMON token rewards), and secure digital asset management through Web3 integration.
To start the game, users need three Kryptomon NFTs, which can now be rented through Playdex, with a minimum of 1 pesos per day. These leased assets can also be used in the upcoming tournament of Playdex GameHub, where players have the opportunity to compete for ranking rewards and receive additional rewards.
Reason for closing:
In Tr3vor's X-themed post, it shared a screenshot of the message from the Kryptomon (KMON) Discord community, showing that development of the game has been put on hold due to a shortage of funds.
According to market news, the team has exhausted resources and is currently seeking new funds or potential buyers to restart the project.
9.Loot Legends
Loot Legends is a free mobile dungeon exploration game developed by HYCHAIN, available for download on the App Store and Google Play. The game contains more than 10 chapters, 200 dungeon levels, and more than 1,500 weapons and armor.

Players can earn $TOPIA through the game and use it to buy advanced props. The game also includes a market called "The Outpost", where players can trade in-game props as digital collectibles.

In Loot Legends, players will devote themselves to a Rogue-like dungeon exploration game, each adventure is a brand new experience.
They will explore over 10 chapters, over 200 well-crafted dungeon levels, fight monsters, avoid traps and defeat powerful bosses. Along the way, players can collect precious loot, such as weapons, armor, and special items that can be upgraded or crafted to enhance the player's combat power.
The game comes in both single and multiplayer modes, including guilds, mattes and PvP challenges. Combining action, strategy and treasure hunt elements, it provides a fast-paced and fulfilling gaming experience.
Reason for closing:
On February 28, 2025, HYCHAIN announced that it would close its game distribution department and focus on the development of the company's flagship gaming platform HYTOPIA.
This decision marks the end of HYCHAIN distribution business, including Loot Legends and Dragon Legends. According to the company, the move is intended to streamline operations and focus resources on HYTOPIA, as the company believes the project has more long-term potential.
Loot Legends is a Web2 game acquired by HYCHAIN and moved to the Web3 platform. The game will continue to operate, but no updates will be made. The game has previously attracted more than 25,000 active players and has developed a loyal community.
10.MetalCore
MetalCore is a mecha-based combat game that emphasizes intense strategic multiplayer combat, developed by Studio 369. The game combines first-person and third-person shooting elements, and incorporates crafting and vehicle manufacturing elements.

MetalCore is a free-to-play post-apocalyptic blockchain massively multiplayer online game that combines first-person shooter gameplay with massive PvE and PvP combat where players can fight one of the three factions using customizable war machines such as mechas, tanks and jets, acquire NFT-based in-game assets, and ultimately participate in a dual-token economic system of governance tokens (MTP) and utility tokens (FAB).
MetalCore was originally built on Immutable X's zkEVM on Polygon to enable blockchain integration, including NFT ownership and item transactions, and MetalCore is allegedly migrating its blockchain infrastructure to Solana for enhanced scalability and performance.
Reason for closing:
According to Tr3vor, Metalcore developers have not issued an official statement, but "the game seems to have been abandoned. No statement responds to outside speculation."
In Metalcore's latest X post, it thanked players for participating in the ita Battlegrounds event and announced that its servers and Discord channels will be temporarily offline to implement important game changes. While they promised the community that it would return soon, there were no other updates to the account since March.
11.Mystery Society
Mystery Society is a Web3 social reasoning game developed by Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow. The studio is led by former Disney and Universal Pictures executive Chris Heatherly. The game focuses on teamwork and strategy discussion.
Although development has been suspended, the game can be previously available for trial play on the desktop via Immutable Passport or downloaded via the Google App Store.

The core gameplay of the game revolves around reasoning and deception. Players will hold meetings and vote to eliminate suspected impostors, integrating strategy, social interaction and teamwork, bringing a suspense and entertaining experience.
Reason for closing:
The Mystery Society announced the suspension of development in a February 25, 2025 post on the grounds that it is difficult to obtain funding given the current challenges facing the Web3 gaming industry. The $MYSTRY token plan is now on hold indefinitely, and players who have purchased in-game gems will receive a refund.
While the game will remain online for the time being, the team is exploring the possibility of re-releasing the game on Steam without Web3 elements and willing to work with publishers from Web2 or Web3.
12.Nyan Heroes
Nyan Heroes is a free, Solana-based hero shooting game developed by 9 Lives Interactive and inspired by games like Overwatch, players control cats to drive mechas known as "Guardians", each with unique abilities and customizable equipment.
The associated NYAN token was launched in May 2024 and is available through Play Earn Airdrops, which can be used to unlock rewards, pay fees, rent assets, and participate in governance.
Gameplay:
Nyan Heroes is a shooting game where players control cats to drive powerful robots. Each cat has its own style and skills, while the robot is divided into different levels and has special abilities.
Players can use add-ons to upgrade and customize their bots. The game also has fast and agile action and offers a variety of game modes for a rich and fun combat experience.
Reason for closing:
Despite attracting over a million players in four Pre-Alpha tests on Epic and Steam platforms, Nyan Heroes has announced a closure due to funding shortages.
Developer 9 Lives Interactive said it was difficult to obtain funds despite negotiations on issuance, funding and acquisitions.
Although studios or IPs still have hopes of being acquired, the future of the game remains unclear.
Nyan Heroes said: "Despite these achievements and discussions on issuances, new investments, grants and acquisitions, we have failed to get the funds needed to complete the game. This is not the result we expected. The industry is in a tough situation at the moment and Nyan Heroes is sorry to close."
13.RoboKiden
RoboKiden is a fast-paced team action game. It combines third-person shooting, cooperative gameplay and MOBA-like strategy elements, with numerous characters, peculiar weapons and robots. The game supports cross-platform online and can be played on PC, PS5, Switch and Xbox Series X platforms, bringing a tense and exciting, strategic robot combat experience.
Gameplay:
RoboKiden The game combines teamwork, strategy use and diverse weapons and equipment. Each player controls their own unique characters and engages in battles that usually last about 10 minutes.
Players can choose unique characters, use a variety of cool guns and powerful robots, and compete for key points on the map.
Reason for closing:
Although the developer did not make it clear that the game was closed, there has been no new updates since its X account released a summary report on the hacked attack on smart contracts in February last year.
On December 25, 2024, RoboKiden's team-attributed smart contract was vulnerable to RoboKiden's team-attributed smart contract, which caused the attacker to steal 38.7 million $KIDEN tokens. The vulnerability stems from the lack of ownership checks in the contract initialization function. The attacker exchanged the stolen tokens for $WAVAX and transferred the funds to his wallet.
According to RoboKiden, as the price of $KIDEN plummeted, three buyers purchased stolen tokens at a low price and transferred them to MEXC, increasing the difficulty of recovering. In response, RoboKiden withdrew liquidity from the decentralized exchange, issued a warning to the community, and began working with exchanges and law enforcement to conduct an investigation.
The team noted that the attack caused significant damage to the stability of the tokens and the team's resources.
14.Rumble Kong League
Rumble Kong League is a three-to-three arcade basketball game based on Web3 that combines fast-paced, exaggerated basketball actions with blockchain technology and NFT.
The game background is set in Aslos City. While exploring missions, challenges and mini-games, players can also unlock rewards by advancing to the league.
The game has been available on the Google Play Store and on the Apple App Store. It is also one of the games developed based on the Ronin platform.
Gameplay:
Players can own or rent unique Kong NFTs and use special skills, cool dunks and strategic moves to compete in short and exciting matches.
Its core gameplay is powered by AI, but is still influenced by player input, ensuring dynamic, skill-based competition. The game also uses the "Watch while playing" system, where players can get in-game rewards, which may be exchanged for real-world currencies.
Reason for closing:
Although the developers have not issued an official statement yet, Ronin talk show host StarPlatinum expressed disappointment at the failure of Rumble Kong League, noting that despite the project’s long-awaited years, including the launch of NFTs and the support of celebrities like Stephen Curry, the project ultimately failed to achieve its intended goals.
The team behind the game later told the community that they "started from scratch" and no longer paid administrators two months ago, and now seemingly have abandoned the project and may have sold it to a Brazilian company.
15.Tatsumeeko
Tatsumeeko is a Web3 role-playing game integrated with Discord, and also supports iOS, Android and web.
In September 2024, Tatsu Works Studio behind the game announced the migration from IMX and Solana to the Ronin network.
Gameplay:
Tatsumeeko's gaming experience centers on loot, team growth, and community building.
The game background is set in the Steyria continent, and players will play the role of "a visitor from another world" and come to a peaceful era where modern technology and ancient myths collide with each other and are uneasy. The game adopts a hybrid team system, where players can customize their main characters and form teams of companions, each companion has a unique growth route and equipment.
The battle is automatic turn-based, and players need to formulate strategies for different enemy squads. In addition to fighting, Tatsumeeko also includes life skills activities such as fishing, farming and pet care, which is also attractive to players who don’t like fighting. Players can also get private “Pocket Dimensions” for personal home construction and pet interaction.
Reason for closing:
In a blog post, Tatsu Works announced the formal cessation of Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates, saying it faces challenges in launching a product that is sustainable and meets the expectations of the community. Despite multiple trials and high community engagement, the team believes the game lacks the core philosophy and confidence to continue to advance.
According to them, the decision shows that Tatsu has returned to its original aspiration to develop games for online communities like Discord. The announcement also highlights that its next project, Project: Wander, will be launched directly within these social spaces, focusing on fast, interactive and community-driven gameplay.
Tatsu also assured holders of Meekolony Pass and Aethereal Parcels that their assets remain practical in upcoming projects.
16.The Walking Dead: Empires
The Walking Dead: Empires is a blockchain-based survival massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the universe of AMC's popular TV series. Developed by Ember Entertainment and supported by Gala Games, the game combines classic survival mechanisms with NFT-based ownership.
The game has NFT land ownership capabilities, which brings game advantages such as resource enhancement and additional defense, and gives players the glory of having a place in the game world.
Gameplay:
In The Walking Dead: Empires, players can choose a hero, whether it is a normal survivor or an NFT-based character, to participate in a survival game including scavenging, manufacturing, building and defending bases.
Its main features include resource collection, player battles, and NFT integration to enhance the gaming experience. Although NFT can bring advantages, the game is fully playable without NFT, aiming to attract traditional players and Web3 players.
Reason for closing:
Gala Games announced that it will close the game The Walking Dead: Empires on July 31, 2025, which means the project will be over three years of development and more than one year of public testing. This decision is part of the company's strategic adjustment to refocus on the broader Gala Games ecosystem.
Players holding in-game NFTs will receive alternative NFTs with equivalent capabilities in other Gala Games games. The redemption system is under development and more details will be announced soon.
But Gala Games did not specify the specific details of the NFT redemption process, so there is still uncertainty about how the alternative NFT will match the value and function of the original asset.
17.Valeria: Land Before the War
Valeria Studios is a Web3 gaming studio dedicated to building blockchain-based games where players can own, trade in-game assets and profit from them.
Its main game "Valeria: Land Before the War" allows players to use VAL tokens to purchase props and participate in game economic activities.
Gameplay:
Valeria: Land Before the War is a real-time strategy mobile game released on October 4, 2024, for iOS and Android platforms.
Players can unlock heroes, weapons and NFT props through various game modes such as dungeons, story mode, faction combat, PvP, tournament, etc. The game is released on the XAI network.
Reason for closing:
Valeria Games announced in an announcement X that they have exhausted their funds and will suspend development and support for their mobile and trading card games (TCGs).
"Currently, we will temporarily keep the game running for a while while looking for investors or potential buyers. If we find the right partner to help us realize our vision for this mobile game and the Trading Card Game (TCG), we will do our best to achieve it. But for the moment, LOV TGE's plans are being put on hold indefinitely."
Current Situation of Web3 Game Industry
In the recent DappRadar report, Web3 gaming investment plummeted 71% in the first quarter of 2025 to $91 million, with investor interest turning to AI and real-world assets. The user base also fell by 6% month-on-month, with the number of daily active independent wallets being 5.8 million.
In addition, a report by Footprint Analytics earlier this year pointed out that despite the strong performance of the broader crypto market, the Web3 gaming sector declined sharply in January 2025, with market value falling 19.3% to $22.3 billion and trading volume declined 12.4% due to platform consolidation, decline in investor interest and competition between chains such as Wax, opBNB and Aptos.
