PANews reported on May 5 that according to the official IOTA blog announcement, the upgrade of the IOTA Rebased main network has been officially launched today (May 5, 2025) at 9 am Central European Summer Time (4 pm Beijing/Tokyo time). This upgrade marks the migration of the network from the original Stardust main network to the new IOTA network.

The upgrade process is carried out through the Genesis Ceremony performed by the IOTA Foundation and 12 initial validators including DLT Green, P2P, Luganodes, KILN, Stakin, etc., involving steps such as closing the old network, generating ledger snapshots, verifying data, creating and signing the Genesis block and starting a new network.

For IOTA token holders, this upgrade is seamless, no token migration is required , and the assets are safe. However, users need to prepare the original wallet's private key, mnemonic, or Firefly/Bloom Stronghold backup files to import and access assets in the new official wallet (the browser extension, which will replace the no longer supported Firefly desktop wallet). Users using Ledger hardware wallets also need to install a new version of the IOTA Ledger application compatible with the new mainnet.

During the upgrade period, most exchanges that support IOTA will temporarily stop the recharge and withdrawal services of IOTA tokens , and are expected to return to normal within a short time after the upgrade is completed. IOTA EVM is expected to resume operation within 4 to 8 hours after the main network is started.
